My friends, myself, mom, and the insects
I have been finding time to post this. I had so much to share not more about myself but about my friends. Brian Tan got married last August in a simple but elegant celebration. Given his classy taste and his wife's the reception was intimate, the venue was cozy and the food was to die for. KC is now a daddy. I was glad when "father syndrome" attacked him because it marked how he loves his wife and child so much. He was so concerned or "cheezy" if I may but at least he was feminized in a way for bearing the nurturing role. I'm so happy for what these guys have become. They are now more responsible oozing with confidence and self-respect. Just keep it up guys! I know it is so difficult to retain a "humane" behavior.
My best friends Rose Lyn and Jan are now specializing in their respective fields. Rose is now a barrister and Jan who is so happy about his new Chinese name will soon be a good manager after his stint at China's Gokongwei School of Management.
Sometimes, I feel I am left out when I see my circle of friends widening their horizons. To forget this "envy" I euphemize my situation by saying that my students' achievements are also mine. Well, it feels good to report that most of my research students have finally realized the value of the subject not just as an academic pursuit but also in relation to other fields. Research is a basic tool in any field. Clear background on how it is done provides one with techniques that can help them treat an an issue with depth.
I'm still young anyway (though starting to have the forehead that can launch a thousand ship) and I know I will still encounter more opportunities especially that I have strengthened my networks. Patience is a virtue indeed. At least I am growing interpersonally and professionally. I have learned to recognize the things I cannot change and focus on what I can still develop. There are also certain paths that are never meant for us although it takes time to realize the necessity of doing a detour. What I am so certain is the fact that I clearly know what I want now. I have a vision that constantly directs my attention to it. Hopefully, they will all be realized soon.

It is quite funny that my mom literally took my advice. I availed a medical card and I told her to have an executive checkup before the service expires. Well, what was supposed to be a pure checkup turned out to be a confinement at the hospital. She even said, "O ayan nagamit ko na iyong card!" She's fine now. It was a blessing in disguise because at least the doctor will be able to detect what needs to be addressed the earliest time possible. I'd like to thank my cousin Marie for being beside her.

After my talk at the Caliraya Resort in Laguna, I realized the importance of stress management. I was like a dog that escaped from my leash. I enjoyed my stay. I played with that HUGE football, swam at the pool, danced with the advisers during the cultural night, had pictures with participants, etc. I photographed insects that looked so endemic in that place. For sure those who have the impression that I am geeky had somewhat changed their perception - I am also a social animal who finds delight out of small things.
